Legacy x Cardiff Jr Devils Jacket

Legacy x Cardiff Jr Devils Jacket

Inside Legacy Studio: Designing the Cardiff Jr Devils Jacket

Not every piece we make is built for the ice. Some are built for the people standing at the boards watching it.

Where it started

Junior hockey runs on parents. Early starts, cold rinks, weekends given up to away games, and a community of mums who end up as much a part of the club as the players themselves. Cardiff Jr Devils wanted something that recognised that, a piece that felt like proper clothing rather than club merchandise, something a mum would actually reach for on a Saturday morning outside a hockey context too.

That's a different brief to a player jacket or a matchday drop. It has to work as a genuine wardrobe piece first, with the club identity as a layer on top rather than the whole point.

The build

We moved away from the varsity wool-and-leather shape for this one and went with a raw, dark wash denim jacket instead, oversized fit, contrast topstitching, rolled cuffs. It reads as fashion rather than fan gear, which was exactly the point.

The identity sits in two places. On the front, embroidered text runs down toward the cuff in a bold collegiate style, a personal marker rather than a club crest, the kind of detail that makes the jacket feel like it belongs to the person wearing it. A smaller devils emblem sits stitched near the chest in white on black.

The back carries the full identity: a large embroidered "D" devils mark, sharp and graphic in black and white, with "Cardiff Jr Devils" curved beneath it. It's the one piece of branding built to be seen from a distance, across a car park or from the far side of a rink, so anyone can spot which club's parents just walked in.

Why it matters

Hockey mums are often the first ones there and the last ones to leave, and they rarely get a piece of kit that's designed with them specifically in mind. This jacket was our way of saying that community matters as much as the players on the ice. Give the people who show up every single week something they're genuinely proud to wear, and you build loyalty that lasts a lot longer than one season.

Legacy Studio is where Legacy Sportswear designs and produces custom kit for our club partners, from concept sketch to finished stitch.
