Legacy x Ryan Tait Playoff Jacket

Legacy x Ryan Tait Playoff Jacket

Inside Legacy Studio: A Playoff Gift, Made Personal

Some of the best briefs we get aren't from a club at all. They're from someone who wants to make a gesture, and wants us to help them get it right.

Where it started

This one came from a player wanting to mark the playoffs with something for his fiancée, a piece she could wear to every playoff game that mattered, with his name and number on it. Not a replica jersey, something that felt like hers rather than his kit reduced down to fit her.

That's the brief that pushes Legacy Studio furthest from a standard product run. There's no template for a gift like this. It has to be built around one person.

The build

We moved away from wool and leather entirely and built this as a cropped, quilted puffer jacket, a genuinely different silhouette to anything else we've put together, chosen specifically because it reads as fashion first and fan wear second. Full zip front, quilted panelling through the body for warmth and shape, colour-blocked sleeves and shoulders in navy against a white base.

The trim tells the club story: bands of navy, maroon, and gold at the collar, cuffs, and hem, pulling in the full colour palette rather than settling for two tones. On the back, name and number sit exactly where they would on a match jersey, "TAIT" arched above a bold number 8, done properly with contrast outline stitching rather than a flat print. The sleeve repeats the number, so it reads from every angle.

The front carries the club identity itself, the flame-and-G crest rebuilt in the maroon and gold colourway to match the jacket rather than the standard team colours, a small but deliberate choice that makes the whole piece feel designed as one thing rather than a jersey graphic bolted onto a different garment.

Why it matters

Playoff runs are stressful and brilliant in equal measure, and the people supporting a player through them rarely get anything made just for them. This jacket was built to be worn to every game of that run, something that said her name was on this too, even if the number on the back wasn't hers.

Some of our favourite work isn't a product line at all. It's one piece, made for one person, that means more than anything we could put on a shelf.

Legacy Studio is where Legacy Sportswear designs and produces custom kit for our club partners, from concept sketch to finished stitch.
