At Legacy Sportswear, community has always been at the heart of what we do. This event was especially meaningful to me on a personal level.
Since Purple Day last year, I had been thinking about how I could do more to support the Epilepsy Society. Epilepsy is something very close to my heart, as I have lived with the condition since I was 11 years old. I wanted to find a way to raise awareness and funds, but also do something that truly represented me and my passions.
That’s when the idea came to me.
What if there was a way to combine my love of ice hockey with a charity event to support the Epilepsy Society?
From that moment, the idea for the Legacy x Epilepsy Society Charity Event began to take shape.
Planning the Event
Having never organised a charity event before, I knew this was going to be an interesting challenge. Planning started over a year ago, and slowly everything began to come together.
One of the highlights of the planning process was bringing together members of the Guildford Flames ice hockey community, including former Flames players and former professional ice hockey player Anthony Page.
Anthony also happens to be my former captain at the Basingstoke Buffalo, and as well as being a fantastic hockey player, he is also a brilliant designer. Together, we worked on designing a special edition ice hockey jersey for the event, something unique that represented both Legacy Sportswear and the Epilepsy Society.

Charity Merchandise
To help raise additional funds, we also created a range of special merchandise for the night, including:
-
Custom Legacy caps
-
Event t-shirts
-
Commemorative pucks
All of these were available for purchase during the event, with 10% of the net sales donated directly to the Epilepsy Society.
It was incredible to see so many people supporting the cause by picking up merchandise and helping contribute to the charity.

Raising Awareness
The event wasn’t just about fundraising—it was also about raising awareness of epilepsy.
We were very grateful to have members of staff from the Epilepsy Society present on the night. They were there to speak with people, share information about epilepsy, and talk about their own experiences supporting individuals and families affected by the condition.

Of course, the event also had a special guest appearance from Roary the Legacy Lion, who brought plenty of energy and smiles to the evening.

A Night to Remember
Overall, the event was a huge success.
Seeing the ice hockey community, supporters, friends, and families come together for a cause that means so much to me personally was incredibly special. What started as an idea after Purple Day turned into a night that helped raise both funds and awareness for the Epilepsy Society.
This was my first time organising a charity event, and it certainly won’t be the last. The support shown by everyone involved has been amazing, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the evening possible.

Together, we showed how sport, community, and passion can come together to support a cause that truly matters, this is just the beginning as we are just getting starting
